Peace and Quiet

I have been getting some much needed sleep, but only because I am staying up late and sleeping in in the morning. Slept until 9:30 a.m. today. Duke took Cody and I shopping for fall decorations late yesterday afternoon. We had a good time, but realized again that our tastes are so different and that decorating a home that we share is difficult. We ended up with a wreath and some swags for the front door. We got some of the scarecrows that are so popular and some artificial pumpkins and gourds. I also bought some loose stems and made an arrangement for the coffee table. I think it looks pretty good for a novice and it adds a punch of color to our living room. Maybe I'll start getting decorations and making the house a bit warmer, I just have to remember that I'm not the only one that looks at them. I like things plain, Duke likes more "stuff". I just know that the stuff has to be cleaned!
I made a few more criss cross cards. I like making them, they look more elaborate than they really are. I did this one yesterday afternoon. I used chocolate brown cardstock for the base and then some PP for the triangular pieces. The white cardstock is matted with burgundy textured cardstock. I stamped the sentiment with StazOn Timber Brown ink. I punched the tab with my QK squeeze. Then the Prima flowers have a brad in the center. I used a glue dot to adhere. The band is made from the same textured cardstock as the mat; the orange ribbon is from HL. Really pretty!

I made three black & white criss cross cards, they look so elegant! I used some PP from ScrapWorks. I stamped the cardstock with the small swirl and tiny flower from SU! Priceless on the ivory cardstock. The tab is punched out the my QK squeeze. The flowers are punch out of the PP and black cardstock, I used a McGill daisy punch. I then put a dot of glitter glue in the center (may have been a mistake!) I used the scallop circle punch on PP, then punch out the flower circle with a 1 3/8 circle punch. I punched a hole in the center of the flower with the CAD, and then attached a black brad. It is adhered with a foam square.

Cody wants his friend to come over, but so far, we have not been able to contact them at home. We'll just have to keep trying. I will be taking them to the park, and then maybe rent a few movies. There must be a few cartoons we haven't watched yet.

I am hoping to get my highlights done today. Not sure I can do all of it myself, but I'll get what I can and have Duke do the rest. I may chicken out and just wait until my sister can do it; guess it just depends on how impatient I get.
We bought the Wal-Mart Deli pizza last night and it is delicious! If you haven't tried it, get one. They are packed with toppings and taste great! We got the supreme and every bite had something on it. I think it could use more cheese, but all in all, I was satisifed with it. And, they only take about 15 minutes to bake.

We are working on Cody's spelling words for the week. On Friday he came home with a list of books that he has to read this year. I guess one per week until he has read them all. He brought his first one home and has to be able to read it to his teacher by the next Friday. He may be able to do it on Monday, we'll see. I am so happy that he is into books!

Criss Cross Card

I have seen variations of this card on all the blogs I stalk and decided to try my hand at it. I was much easier than I had thought it would be and I will most likely be making some more in the coming days. I used chocolate cardstock and covered it with PP from Cosmo Cricket. I matted the ivory insert with burgundy textured cardstock and cut a file folder tab with my QK squeeze; topped the tab with Primas and a brad. The band is made from textured cardstock and the ribbon is Amerian Crafts. It's too bright for this card and I intend to pick up a few brown ribbons this weekend. I can't believe that I am all out.

Here is the insert. I stamped the sentiment with StazOn Timber Brown ink. I really like the looks of this card, very cute. I'll make a few of these for the festival to see how they do. They should go pretty fast!

My hubby just got off the phone with the doctor's office. I hate the place we go, but it is the closest to our house with pretty good doctors. His arthritis meds are not effective any longer and he really needs to see the doctor because the pain is unbearable. In any case, the last few times we've called to make an appointment, you are prompted to leave a message with all your information as they promise to return the call within 24 hours. Not a good thing when you are in pain! In any case, we didn't get a call back last month and today he called another doctor and asked about the procedure to get records changed to their office. Well, once they found out why, they called and miracuoulsly he has an appointment this afternoon and they are sending him to a specialist on Monday for one of his issues. He had a lengthy discussion with the receptionist about this new procedure with the phone...it was not good; of course, I am sure his complaint will not change the policy!

Should be a pretty quiet weekend. Cody wants his little friend, Luther, to come over for the day. He's a cutie, but the last time I had him over, it was total chaos. One of the drawbacks of having only one child is that the noise factor seems much more amplified with visitors. That may be the only drawback of having only one child! Anyway, I think we'll have him over on Sunday and I can take them to the park or somewhere to get out some of that energy! Maybe rent a few movies for the evening and chill! The boys will be playing Cody's new games, so maybe they'll be outta my hair for a bit so that I can get some cleaning done.

Pumpkin

Here is a card I did at 5:00 a.m.; still waking up too early. I used a SU! set, not sure the name of it. I colored the image with watercolor markers, I used three different shades of orange. I again used the watercolor markers on the stem and the leaves. I mounted the image on white cardstock and then tied the bow around the mat. The brush marks don't seem to be as visible IRL. Ah well!
I covered the card base with pumpkin paper from Paper Salon. I stamped the sentiment with stamps from Martha Stewart. The sentiment was on one row, I just colored and stamped them each separately. I punched the sentiment and the mat out with a square punch. All that was left was to adhere to the card base.
I can hardly wait for the weekend to get here. I have nothing planned, but it will be nice to NOT have to get up in the morning. Of course, the boy will still wake up at the crack of dawn, so I'll be in the same boat. Just not having to get up is the main thing.
Wendi and I finished some of the jumbo paperclips yesterday. We plan on offering them at the On Cosby Festival. Not sure what we intend to price them at, but we'll have plenty.
It has been a strange couple of days at the office. Don't know if there have been full moons or we will be experiencing some, but weird!

A Quick Card

I woke up at 5:00 a.m. and got out of bed shortly thereafter. I decided to make a card since I didn't get any time to last night. Unfortunately, there was a pretty bad accident on the road that I travel back and forth to work. There were two helicopters and I stopped counting ambulances at 4, as well as a Rescue Squad truck. BAD! I think that three were killed in a head on collision. I have said a prayer or two for the families.
I used a sketch for this card from SCS, I remembered to write down which one, but I left it at home *duh!* The image is SU! Petals and Paisley; I colored it with watercolor markers. I punched it out and then cut a mat from turquoise cardstock. I layered a scallop circle in for fun. I covered the card base with PP and then cut a mat out of SU! Whisper White. I tied the ribbon and then punched holes with the CAD for the brads. Super quick and easy. I think I might like this one the best. This sketch is great and really versatile.

Here is a picture of the blog candy that I won from Marie. She has a great blog, stop by and take a look. I got to choose items from the SU! catty and I have been wanting to get the scallop circle punch! The StazOn will be great since I use StazOn ink alot. Thanks Marie! Please be sure to check out her site, you'll be inspired. Can't wait to use this stuff.

We're having another hazy day. Cool in the morning, but then in the 90's in the afternoon. It doesn't even start cooling down until after 9:00 p.m. Can't wait for the 70's all day.

And now, for some fun! I have seen this posted on the many blogs that I stalk everyday. I was tagged by Marie:

A Few Cards

I have a few quick cards today, nothing special. In any case, I had a bit of energy last night, it should have been spent on cleaning, however.

For the first one, I cut the bats out with my WB; I used a file from Chris Durnan. She is a great designer and I stalk her blog daily. The card base is covered in a strip of textured cardstock and some PP. I added another thin strip of inked cardstock to cover the seam. The stamped words are mounted on black cardstock using the Traffic Jam Cuttlebug Embossing Folder . The design is simple and I got the idea from PaperCrafts magazine. I might have to subscribe to this magazine, lots of great ideas.

For this card, I used PP a bit smaller than the card base. I then punched some squares from Bazzill Bling and textured cardstock. I rounded the corners and then adhered to the front. I took the ugly center from the flower and put in a big brad (the color is a match IRL). Then I cut the edge of the flower off. I stamped the sentiment on the squares with the SU! Priceless set. This card was also inspired from PaperCrafts magazine.

I intended to finish another one, but the time got away from me. A girl has to get some sleep; I definitely need it!

Cody's teacher has called already this morning. Apparently, the boy has thrown up and claims he is not feeling well. She said he looks and seems fine; I will be calling before his lunch period to see if I need to pick him up. He didn't indicate feeling sick this morning, so who knows what has happened. **Update**- Cody is fine, just must have gotten too hot or something. His teacher let me know that he read an entire story to his class today. Let me just say, it made me gush with pride. He'll have a big hug and surprise when we get home tonight.

Thanks for stopping by!

So Today

Should be a relatively slow day for me at work...thank heavens. Next week, we will make up for it.
Wendi and I are hoping to get some of our cards and other projects finished for the festival next month. I have started some cards, but they still need to be put on bases. I'll do some of the big paperclips and some clipboards. I am crossing my fingers that we can get enough done by the middle of next month to interest everyone and turn a profit. By reading all the message boards, I realize that this can be hit or miss; but you never know until you try. I'll post pictures when we get some of our projects completed.
Here is a card that I did yesterday in my mini frenzy. Not a card making frenzy, but a fenzy nonetheless. I covered the base with textured cardstock and then adhered the ribbon around PP. I placed a glitter brad through the center of the flower and pushed it through the sheer ribbon. I ended up placing a small glue dot behind the flower to get it to lay properly.
I stamped the image with StazOn, colored with my Prismas, and then blended with OMS. I mounted the image on textured cardstock and adhered to the front. I am thinking that this card needs something else, maybe paper piercing or aging the image a bit. I also need to add a sentiment.
My hubby's co-workers have played a few tricks on him this weekend. They wrote on his back window and stuck something on his back. He laughed and have vowed his revenge! They have no idea who they are messing with. HAHAHAH They will soon learn of the sense of humor he has! Poor things won't know what hit them.

A Lazy Day

I am taking the day to so some resting. I have not been sleeping well, so I need it. Unfortunately, I woke up early; but was able to get some rest afterward. I just stayed in bed. It was nice. In fact, I think that I will be taking a nap very soon. Then, it's time to get up and make dinner.

I cut some scallop circles and squares with the Wishblade. I'll just need to cut some smaller circles for the scallop circles. It would most likley be easier to just buy a circle punch! I mounted my snowmen on the squares. They look so nice! I will be mounting them on cards soon. So great to be making some progress finally. Cody wants to make some of these for the kids in his class. He even had the great idea of writing their names on the snowman's belly. I believe that I will do that for his class this year. Last year we made bookmarks.

I got a hair cut yesterday, after months of talking about it. I colored it this morning and will most likely do the highlights next weekend. Gotta cover that gray, it comes from nowhere!

Here is a picture of the view from our front deck. It is such a beautiful day today. I originally wanted to go to Cataloochee to see the elk, but am so glad that we slept in. We will go before the weather gets bad, but we still have a some time. I will be calling The Great Smoky Mountains National Park to get the schedule for hayrides; I'm thinking that we will go this year.

Cody is psyched about the approach of Halloween. He has decided to use the same costume as last year, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. It is a great costume and I'm really glad he is still loving it. I think we'll head to one of the community centers for the festivities instead of going trick or treating. It is just too hard to do it by myself. Of course, he is a little older, but still not enough to walk by himself. The place we used to go is too crowded, but it is a safe neighborhood. We have several community places that have games, candy, contests, etc. to make it fun for the kiddies.

Another Early Morning

Woke up at 1:00 a.m., no sign of going back to sleep anytime soon. I made this card for Cody's teacher; he told me she was not feeling well and I had to call her regarding Cody's sudden drop in math grades. So, I had already had these images colored and decided to use them for her card. I found paper in my scraps that matched the image colors. I used a sketch from SCS (not sure which one); they sure come in handy! The bow tying was a little easier than it has been in the past; not sure if it's practice or maybe I just work better with no sleep. I just covered white cardstock with pp. Then cut strips of cardstock, tied the bows aroung them. Then cut around the images and curled the ends. I also added dimension by adhering them with pop dots. Anyway, I really like this card. Quick and simple layout with fabulous result. *Now, I just hope she likes it.*
I have been thinking that since I can't sleep, I might as well make good use of my time. But, since Duke was home last night, I couldn't start cleaning- he needs to sleep. I know all the noise won't wake the boy up, so that is my plan for the sleepless nights. Maybe I'll stay asleep if I know that I'll be doing work!!! HAHAHAH
We have been having some beautiful weather here. Crisp and cool in the morning and it warms up throughout the day. Just perfect! I am happy to see the fall season approaching. Can hardly wait for the changing of the foliage; it is so spectacular here in East Tn.

No Post Yesterday

Here is the card I did quickly last night. I used light purple cardstock as the base. I layered patterned paper over a pink cuttlebugged embossed mat, then tied with a bow. Then I stamped the image which I colored with watercolor markers. The image was matted on purple textured cardstock. I put some glitter glue around the edge of the flower image, then I stamped the sentiment. I layered the buttons on the bottom. The colors match more closely IRL. I used the portable photo studio, but it looks like it was crooked. ( I did it in a hurry!) I like this layout, not totally pleased with this particular card. Maybe since I am not a big fan of the color purple. I think this is the layout I will use for my Christmas cards. Quick and easy.
Today is the middle of my work week and I feel like I have already been here for 30 days. I love my job, but I am tired. Of course, it has been a rough couple of days because it is time to send owner statements. It usually takes a couple of days to go through the statements to ensure all charges are applied, etc. Hopefully now that they are in the mail and posted, the rest of the work week will fly by! *Wishful thinking, right?*
Our little gravel road got paved yesterday. It is fabulous! My son related the experience to the scene in 'Cars' when Lightning McQueen fixed the road in Radiator Springs. I love it! Now, if we could just get our driveway paved, we'd be set. Our driveway is a challenge to say the least. It's gravel, the grade is so steep, and when it gets ruts when it rains hard. I have to have my Jeep in 4WD to get up the darn thing. We are trying to get someone to smooth it out, but so is everyone else; they are all booked up.

Monday, Monday

I have an appointment this morning, hope to make it to work by noon. It should happen, I am going to get there early so that they can see me early. Sometimes that works.

I made this card yesterday. Got the stamp from HL. I colored it in with my Prismas then blended with OMS. I also put some glitter glue on the cloud and his hat.. I used white cardstock and covered it in some PP. I then tied ribbon around a piece of cardstock that was embossed with the Cuttlebug snowflake embossing folder. I matted the image with another embossed piece. I used eyelets to secure the image to the mat. I punched the sentiment with at 3/4" circle punch & small hole punch. I tied some embroidery floss through the eyelet; then tied to secure. The image might be too big for this size card.

We had some milkshakes last night at about 7:00 p.m. Not a good decision since we ate so heavy yesterday. I am paying for it today, not feeling so great.

The puppy is making me crazy. He sleeps inside at night and at around 3:45 a.m. he wanted to go outside. No sooner did I get back in bed, he was scratching at the door. I got up to let him in and he wanted to play- I did not. He then started scratching at the bedroom door, so I let him back outside. Again, he wanted back inside; I left him outside this time. I can't stay awake to play with the puppy, then wait for him to decide what he wants. Is that mean???

Be Still My Heart

It has been a hard weekend. Something was said that should not have been said and now the drama is unfolding. Although I wish it could have been done differently, I am glad it happened. Hopefully, some communication lines will open and the situation will get resolved. I'm not holding my breath, but stranger things have happened...right?
Anyway, here is a picture of Cody. Isn't he the cutest?? Big, blue eyes! I took this with the new camera, it turned out great. It was taken in the car out in the parking lot. I still have to play with it to figure it out, hope I can find the time.

We went to Cracker Barrel today. We got breakfast, it was so fantastic. I have been craving breakfast at Cracker Barrel since Friday. Gotta love biscuits and gravy. Yeah, probably gained about 10 lbs.
We made the unfortunate decision to go to Wal-Mart after eating, not our best move with full bellies. Hope I don't have to go back for a while.

A Late Night

I finally was able to sleep in this morning, almost 8:00 a.m. Cody and I went out at around noon to look for fall decorations, I didn't find anything that I just had to have, so I came home empty-handed. I did pick up a new digital camera since my other one is ready to retire. I really like it, I have my fingers crossed that it lasts for a while.
I colored in some of my flower images with Prismas, I still have plenty to go. I don't think I'll blend these, the color is very intense. I really like this image, it's so pretty and it's whimsical at the same time. Too cute! I think I might pierce around it and then cut them out. I plan to use these on cards for the On Cosby Festival.

I went to HL today to look for some stamps since they were 30% off this week. I found a few that I wanted, but had more success in the clearance bin. I'll post pictures in the morning, too tired right now.

I took Cody to the park today too. There was a peewee football game at the park and it was packed. Cody was able to get in over an hour of playtime; I thought it would really have worn him out, but he was a bundle of energy when we got home. He finally settled down around 9:30 p.m. to watch Prehistoric Predators. I think he can recite every single thing he's learned from that episode. I love that he is into animals, he lives to learn everything he can about them. We watch Animal Planet a bunch!

It's my brother's birthday today; my mom and aunt share tomorrow as their birthday. I can hardly believe that it is the middle of September already; where has this year gone to? Christmas is coming sooner and sooner. It will be our first without Duke's mom; her passing hit him so hard.

Friday, September 14, 2007

Thank Heavens It's Friday!

I sure am ready for the weekend. I have not been sleeping well for the last three or so weeks, even with a sleep aid. Not sure what is going on, but I hope I can get caught up this weekend. We shall see.

I did not get to color my flower images last night as I intended, just too tired. I went to bed around 8:00 p.m. Ok, that is not so early for me, but I just couldn't hold my head up. It is strange that i don't have a problem going to sleep, but staying asleep.

Here is my card for today. I used my Changito monkey; I colored him with Prismas and blended with OMS. I mounted him on a scallop circle cut with my Wishblade. I used the Crop-A-Dile to punch the hole in the scallop circle and the mats, then tied the ribbon. (Ribbon tying is a challenge for me; I intend to master it one these days.) The letters are foam stickers I got at HL for about .50 some time back. I'm not a big sticker user, but I thought they were cute.

I hope to get some of my snowmen cards made and then start coloring. I've got m fingers crossed for a great weekend for rest. Cody got a free ticket to a Kid's Day at the park for tomorrow, so I may take him. I really have to work with him on math, he's brought home two papers with a not so great score. Not failing, but not A's.

Duke had to get a new cell phone yesterday. He lost his other one on his first day of work. He loses everything! In any case, I had to spend some time getting the numbers he needs in the thing since he "claims" he doesn't know how. Why in the world to I fall for it?

Ziggy has become more and more playful. He just loves to wrestle with Duke. It's so cute when he barks at him and acts like he is going to attack. He's so tiny, it just cracks me up that he thinks he soooo much bigger and badder! Anyway, when we let him in to play or to sleep, he just whimpers with happiness, you have to laugh!

Butterflies and Flowers

Here is my offering for today. I used some of the same paper from my pumpkin card. I punched a hole with my new punch and then covered with PP. I used two of my SU! sets. Yippee!!! I have embossed the orange and the yellow mats. I found the cute little flower brads as my embellishment. I think my bow turned out good this time, it still took me forever to tie it.
Not much else going on today, just work and more work. I have to start cleaning the house to prepare for the carpet cleaners.
I have to color my flower images tonight, hope that I can get all done.
Thanks for stopping by.

Pumpkin Card

Here is my card for today. I got this set from Ebay and this is the first opportunity I have had to use it. I think it's cute enough, but none of my ink pads was juicy enough. The middle fella is pop dotted for dimension. I may add some grass to the pumpkins later today. The ribbon matches exactly IRL....this camera is going any day, I am sure of it. Maybe it'll take better pics once I get the photo studio on a box that I ordered. Don't know.

I stopped at the LSS in Sevierville on Monday and got some stuff from the clearance center. This LSS has a clearance center just a few doors down from the main store. Anywho, thought the circle and square punches would come in handy and at 1/2 off the regular price, you can't leave it at the store, right?? I also picked up the All Night Media ink pads for like $1.50. I haven't used them before, but at that price, you gotta try them. I got the stamp and the StazOn at the main store. I've been looking for StazOn Jet Black for sometime and they finally got it in.
I got all my cute snowmen cut apart and I cut a few of them out the circle punch. Man, you gotta have some muscles to use that thing!! Geez!!! Anyway, I then cut out some scallop circles with my wishblade. A few of them cut kinda strange, but I cut extra so no harm done. I used a yellow Bazzill Bling. Sparkles, you gotta love it! Once I get them on cards, I'll share them with you.
I stamped with my new flower stamp from Hero Arts. Cute! Guess I'll be coloring those in for the rest of my life....HAHAHH Maybe not that long! I feel like I am finally making progress and once I have a product finished, I'll feel even better.
Well, since Tandra informed me that indeed, chocolate can be used as a pain reliever, you will be happy to know that I am no longer in pain. Had to hit the brownie pan a little hard on Monday!
Our neighbors are giving us a pen to hold Ziggy in. He has started to roam the woods and wandered into the road. He's too small to leave the house and he seems to get loose with any other form of containment. Maybe this will work for us. I hope we can get it put up and start using it today. It's a 10x10 pen, so it's plenty big enough, we just don't have a big enough yard to place it where it needs to be. Our land is mostly wooded and certainly not flat! We'll figure it out; and by that, I mean Duke will figure it out!

Back in Grade School

*UPDATE* I won blog candy here. I didn't even know it until Saturday night. It has been crazy here as you know. Anyways, I ordered the scallop circle punch and StazOn cleaner. She's a generous gal!!! I can hardly wait to get it! WOOHOO!!

That's what I feel like. I have been coloring snowmen for two nights. Last night I did the blending and tonight I'll most likely cut them out. I'll be trying to get a few simple layouts done with them, and then I hit the assembly line! Gotta figure out what works. Here are samples of the images; I got 8 per page and I don't really even know how many pages I did. But I know that my hand and fingers cramped up pretty good!! Had to eat a brownie to ease the pain...chocolate is a pain reliever, right??!! Not sure I did the blending exactly right, but I think they are cute!

I had to stamp some for Cody, he has to feel like he is helping. He did great until he got bored with it...then he just scribbled all over it. That boy goes 100 MPH sometimes. Too many things he wants to do. Anyway, I am think of adding stickles to the snow drift and/ or the snowflakes. I may try it on a few to see how it looks. With these, I intend to have six per package w/ envelopes. What do you think??
On my way home last night, I saw Ziggy in the road. I don't know how he got loose, but he did. Might have to change his name to Houdini. Gotta find another way to keep him in our yard. He's so fast that he got away from me, but the neighbors returned him shortly thereafter. What to do? I think Duke is going to try something out today.
My niece called last night to sell cookie dough. The school puts them up to it. I wanted to help her out, but it really doesn't taste good at all. I bought it a couple years in a row, but the prices have gone up and you get less. Just can't do it right now. Besides, I am trying to get back on the diet wagon!

Post Sting Ziggy

Well, it took a few days, but I finally got around to getting a snapsot of Ziggy. As you can see, his face has returned to its normal size and shape. He is a cutie and as I have said before I am happy that there was no permanent damage done.

I have been coloring like a madwoman today. Right now I have about 6 colored and have several more to go. A friend and I are going to have a booth at a local festival here in the small town I live it. It's called the On Cosby Festival and it is held once a year. It features local artisans and other vendors. Anyway, she and I are making cards and other small papercrafts to sell. I am hoping that my work is good enough to earn a few bucks! Right now, I'm working on a few Christmas selections. I have no idea how much to make, but I do know that I will make them simple enough to recreate in an assembly line fashion. After all, we have little more than a month to get everything ready.
I got my Prismas sharpened and have been using the heck out of them. My thumb is so sore from twisting the pencil to sharpen it...I almost got a blister. Dang!
My son had neon orange hair yesterday and somehow the neon got everywhere! I am noticing it in the strangest places. **Note to self--NEVER buy hair paint again!** It is a pain. Thank heavens it's a water soluble product and cleans up pretty easy. But, never again!
Cody and I are baking brownies; the kind with walnuts. Yummmmm! Only one minute left!! Sure wish I could share with you. I had been doing so good with my weight loss and now I am back to the bad habits. Guess I need to get back on the wagon pretty soon.

A Few Things for Today

Ok, so I made a card last night for a scrapbooking group that I belong to. They love the Changito monkey and so I made one with that image. I love it too! I used white cardstock for the base, covered it in PP. I matted a strip of Pp with textured cardstock. Then I adhered wide grosgrain ribbon to the base and adhered the thinner shimmer ribbon with brads. The monkey is colored with my pencils and blended with OMS and matted on textured cardstock. The stamped image is adhered with mini pop dots. Ok, so the picture is terrible, I am hoping to do a little editing later on. But, you get the idea.

We are off to HL today with my 40% off coupon, I hope that I can find something to use it on! Who am I kidding?!! I plan to use the coupon on 72 ct. Prismacolor Pencils.

I made a sympathy card for the daughter of our friend that passed. I used the same card template but did not use ribbon on the bottom of the card. I used more PP. I adhered gold brads on the bottom. I stamped the image with my watercolor markers. I really like this image. It is pop dotted for dimension as is the scallop circle. I downloaded a beautiful poem for the inside sentiment. We will making a donation to funeral expenses instead of flowers. This family was really caught off guard with all that has been happening to them.
UPDATE: I got a Penny Black stamp at HL, it's a cute little snowman. Guess I'll break in my prismas with him.

Sad News

If you have been reading my posts for the past few days you know that we have a dear friend in a coma. I just found out that they took her off life support and she has passed away. I will miss her and will pray for her family. This all happened so suddenly and her family has been through so much already. My heart goes out to them in this time of need. Please pray for them if you can, they really need all the strength they can get.

I will be posting two creations tomorrow sometime; as well as a picture of my sweet Ziggy.

A Big Thank You

Yesterday I was in a scramble to find someone that could keep Cody for about an hour after school. We normally don't need a sitter on Thursday, but there are always times like this. Anyway, when I called the school, the coach of the girls' volleyball team said he could stay with them and practice. So I made him a card to thank him for being so generous.

The camera is a bit wonky and getting ready to die, I am sure of it. Anyway, I used PP over the card base, then a cardstock piece that I embossing using a Cuttlebug embossing folder. I just love them, the images are crisp and deeply embossed. The I wrapped my last bit of this ribbon around it. I used a paper crimper on the brown cardstock and adhered. The monkey image was stamped in StazOn and then colored with my cheapo pencils and blended with OMS. I used some blue rickrack as an embellishment. I like this one. Oh, and I also stamped the monkey on the envelope. I just love the Changito monkey stamps. I have this one and another one.
I also took the opportunity to take a picture of my monkey HAHAH. He was totally into stamping and coloring with me. I totally love it that he gets enjoyment from crafting and creating. Of course, he does get in the way sometimes, maybe I need to get him a small table or something so that I have some elbow room. I have a really small space anyway and then factor in a six year old who needs elbow room too! Maybe it's time to move some toys out of the room that we are in and set up a card table for the boy. Oh the possibilities!
I finally got a good smile from Cody. He has lots of work to do about producing a natural smile. Anyone have any tips??? Dontcha just love those dipples? Layers and layers of them. I think he is about the cutest thing ever. I am a bit biased as his mother of course, but we always get compliments on him. Ok, so I'll shut up about him.
Hope you all have a great weekend, I hope to post more creations. Also, for those of you that have been concerned about Ziggy, I will post a picture of him post-stings. Thanks for all the well wishes!

Ziggy and More

Ziggy's face and demeanor have returned to normal. He finally looks like himself again...I am very happy about that. Strange how the swelling went down in areas and gradually. Yesterday he still had a double, droppy chin and today the swelling is completely gone. I'll have to get an "after" picture tonight.

Jack, our other dog (ironically a Jack Russell), is outside barking like crazy. I went to investigate (from the safe distance of the deck), and he is barking at the ground near the edge of our tree line. I can only assume that it is a snake. There is a price to pay for the beauty and tranquility we want...that price is critters roaming about. In fact, last fall and winter we had a family of raccoons coming every single night to feed on our food scraps. Although we loved witnessing them get fat and enjoy our offerings, they started to destroy our property and we had to run them off. We no longer offer them food and they have stopped coming around. We are total nature and wildlife lovers, but you have to draw the line when they start to destroy things. I think we went through about four birdfeeders and they liked to sleep in the swing...what a smell!!!

I made a card tonight. I used just plain white cardstock for the base, then added a strip of PP. I added a cuttlebugged mat out of cardstock and added the polka dot paper after I rounded the corners, then tied it with a bow. WOW! That bow tying took forever. I am still not sure that I like how the bow looks, but it will have to do. Then I added another cardstock mat and covered it with PP. I round the corners of both pieces. Next I used watercolor marker on the stamp to create the image. I used two different colors of green for the stems and leaves. I then added the bling as the centers of the flowers. ( I have since corrected the pink one that was falling off.) So glad I caught that before the glue dried. I cut the scallop circle with my Wishblade some time ago. I think that the next time I cut some I'll cut them a bit smaller; they seem to overwhelm the project. The scallop circle and the stamped image are mounted with pop dots for dimension. I think I might actually like this one.

Cody has his spelling pre-test tomorrow and I hope that he does well. He seems to have had a harder time with these words than in the past few weeks. If he gets 100% tomorrow, he doesn't have to take the test on Friday. So, in all actuality as long as he passes in Friday, he is fine. I just really want him to do his best the first time around. Sometimes I think that my "prodding" may discourage him more than I want it to. I am just sooooo competitive and it is hard to sit back and let the child learn by himself and at his own pace. I am lucky in that he comes home just about everyday telling me how great first grade is. I am so darn proud of the boy and his accomplishments. Seems like everytime we take him somewhere, people comment on how smart, respectful, and sweet he is. Guess we're doing something right.

Duke brought home a coffee table for us. We haven't had one since Cody was born for fear that he'd crack his head open. The one that we used to have was some sort of kidney shaped glass top one with a strange looking base. This one sorta matches our decor which we decided tonight is either eclectic or shabby chic. HAHAHA We have such an odd assortment of furniture. If we like it, we get it without really giving much thought as to if it will "go" with what we already have. We just do our best to make it work.

Man, I have just rambled on and on. Sorry to be such a chatty Cathy!

Yippee!

My SU! order arrived today. I am so happy to see it, I can hardly wait to use them. I got Priceless, Garden Whimsy, and Polka Dots & Paisley. Then I got the Stampin' Scrubber, Stamp-a-ma-jig, some paper, and the sponges. All I can say is, I hope that I get some time to play this week or weekend.

Beginnings

Well, today we buried Howard, a friend of Duke's for more than 15 years. It is a sad tragedy, his fiance (also a good friend of ours) has been in a coma for more than a week, is most likely not going to make it. He left the hospital and had a heart attack on the way home. His vehicle collided with a truck and he was killed. I haven't heard of any other injuries from the accident. Not only has this family suffered these two tragedies, but apparently, their home was broken into the same day that Howard passed. I am saying prayers that they make it through this with their sanity intact. Goodness knows how heavy their hearts must be. I have made some cards for them to let them know that we are thinking about them. I hope they realize that they can call us for whatever they need.
Here is a card I made for someone I hope is a new friend. I mailed it today, so hopefully she will have it by the end of the week.
This is the first time that I used the sewing machine on a card, and I absolutely love the dimension and sophistication that it adds. The image is one that Cody snuck in the buggy at Hobby Lobby. I colored it and blended with OMS, then used a glue pen and glitter for the bubbles. I used a Cuttlebug Embossing Folder for the yellow strip. The card base is Bazzill Bling and the PP is DCWV stack (not sure which one). Oh, the ribbon is part of my winnings of blog candy. It is too cute!
Cody was not excited to go to school from his long weekend. It was a struggle to wake him up and getting him into action. He kept wanting to argue with me about it being a school day. He finally saw the light and got himself ready. Duke got home a bit early from work and was able to watch Cody get on the bus. It was the first time that Duke got to witness this big step! Very special; of course, I had no camera.
My hope is for the rest of the week to be quiet so that I can get some stamping and scrapbooking done. Of course, this will only happen if the boy can behave himself and cooperate with me. HAHHAH Ah, he's pretty good about it most of the time, but lately I have been wanting to "get rid of him" so that I can have some peace and quiet! But, as with everything else, when he's gone I miss him like crazy! Am I insane or what??!!

My Poor Ziggy

Yesterday Ziggy was sitting by the door and it looked as if he had something in his mouth. Upon further inspection, I noticed that his entire face was swollen. Oh no! Since we live in the mountains surrounded by woods, I just knew that he had been bitten by a snake. Also, he and Jack have recently discovered an old doghouse that we used to use and they have been going in there to play and/ or sleep. Needless to say, it is most likely full of wasps, bees, and hornets, not to mention the fact that they both are covered with fleas from this discovery. I purchased flea dip for them yesterday, but had not yet had the chance to dip them. Ok, so I already had an antibiotic from the vet because Ziggy had some sort of skin irritation; so I gave him the antibiotic and then Duke suggested a Benadryl for the swelling. Duke is still sure that he had not been bitten by a snake; I guess since he weighs less than 5 lbs., a snake bite would have killed him or made him very sick. In any case, we medicated him and waited it out. At about 4:45 a.m., I was able to give him some children's ibuprofen and antibiotic. He then took some water and went outside to do his business. The swelling still hasn't gone down, but he seems to be more active than he was last night. He ate some this morning and did some business. We are certain that he was stung several times and is allergic to the stings. He looks so funny and it is hard not to laugh now that we know that he will be ok. Please say a prayer for the puppy.

I received my blog candy from Corie yesterday too. I am so excited to use it. There is ribbon, magic mesh, SU! stamp set, 2 acrylic stamps, a gorgeous card made by the talented Corie, and some images that she stamped for me. Great, huh!! I need to send a thank you card to her; I'm almost afraid to since my work is no where near as fabulous as hers. I have sent an email telling her that I received it. Isn't it fabulous??!!

I have used the magic mesh before and I do like the effect. The poinsettia images are just exquisite.

We have a friend of ours that is in a coma and her daughter has come from her home to make the decision of whether or not to keep her on life support. The news is grim and she will not make it. Well, if that isn't bad enough, her boyfriend left the hospital yesterday and was killed in a car accident. I tell you, you have to wonder why in the world this family has to go through so much right now. This fella has been a friend of Duke's for over 15 years and he is devastated about it. On top of that, we had to call his ex-wife to tell her. She is our neighbor. We don't know any of the plans at this time.

Guess I will just have a lazy day and tend to the sick puppy. I want to make some cards because October 19th is coming sooner rather than later. Gotta get ready.
